Big Ten champions Penn State will head to the Rose Bowl to face Southern California, while Pitt -- whose 42-39 win over the Nittany Lions essentially kept Penn State out of the College Football Playoffs -- will take on Northwestern in the Pinstripe Bowl.

Pitt officially accepted an invitation this afternoon to face Northwestern in the 2016 New Era Pinstripe Bowl, played at iconic Yankee Stadium in New York City on December 28.

Nate Peterman threw for 251 yards and four touchdowns and ran for another to lead Pitt to a wild 76-61 shootout win over Syracuse at Heinz Field on Saturday.
